No information about journalist Suleiman since 72 days

The KDP authorities continue to conceal the fate and whereabouts of journalist Suleiman Ahmed, who was kidnapped 72 days ago, despite calls made by media centers and bodies, and his lawyer’s efforts to meet him.

Journalist Suleiman Ahmed's lawyer previously revealed that the Dohuk Asayish prevented his lawyer from meeting with their client, and that his file is with the party's intelligence service, which kidnapped him since 72 days ago.

What actions does Roj News intend to take?

In a written statement from Roj News Agency in response to ANHA agency’s questions, the agency confirmed that they will continue working on Suleiman Ahmed’s file to release him, by using the Iraqi constitution and following the systems of laws that exist in southern Kurdistan.

It confirmed that they are working to "prepare a complete file regarding the actions of KDP towards the press and journalists, in addition to placing the case of Suleiman Ahmed at the forefront of the file."

Why don't you reveal the fate of my son?

In an interview with Roj News Agency, Suleiman’s mother, Sultana Ahmed appealed to those concerned to intervene in order to reveal her son’s fate.

Suleiman Ahmed’s mother added, “Why don’t you reveal the fate of my kidnapped son? My son works openly and did not do anything illegal. How can he come legally to the city of Aleppo to visit us and then be kidnapped on his return? Why do they prevent lawyers from meeting with him and revealing the truth?”

Suleiman Ahmed's mother called on the Autonomous Administration to intervene in order to reveal the fate of her son, and said: "The Autonomous Administration must intervene in order to reveal the fate of my kidnapped son and release him."

Both CPJ and RSF, which are concerned with the rights of journalists at the global level, issued a decision to drop the charges against journalist Suleiman and release him immediately. They also criticized the authorities in southern Kurdistan over the continued violations of international laws protecting journalists.

Journalist Suleiman had gone to visit his family in the city of Aleppo on October 1, after the death of his father, Muhammad Ahmed.

During his return from Syria, KDP kidnapped him at the Faysh Khabur crossing border.
