New group of Al-Arisha Camp IDPs departs for Deir ez-Zor

As part of ongoing efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of displaced persons to their areas of origin, a new group of IDPs from Al-Arisha Camp, situated in the Jazira Canton south of Hasakah, left on Thursday for their home areas in Deir ez-Zor.

The voluntary return program was launched by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in cooperation with the UNHCR office. This marks the 13th convoy organized from the camp this year.

This latest trip included 45 families, totaling 231 individuals.

In this context, Salwa Jajou, co-chair of Al-Arisha Camp, stated: “Transportation and shipping costs are covered by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, in coordination with the AANES.”

It is worth noting that since the start of the voluntary return facilitation, a total of 619 families, comprising 3,352 individuals, have departed Al-Arisha Camp.

The camp still hosts around 10,000 displaced persons, distributed across approximately 2,000 families, most of whom are originally from eastern Syria; areas that witnessed battles against ISIS or previous displacement due to security and humanitarian conditions.
