Netanyahu said Israel had established a “security belt” in Syria and that he had conveyed to Damascus and Ankara, through the United States and direct channels, his opposition to any Turkish military expansion southward.

He added that Israel had warned against the construction of fortifications or the deployment of Turkish forces at an air base south of its current area of deployment, noting that the failure to heed those messages had prompted Israel to use force.

Netanyahu linked his remarks to recent Israeli strikes in Syria, including the targeting of Abu al-Duhur military airport in the Idlib countryside on August 21.
