NE, Syria People offer deepest condolence to Nour al-Din Sofi's family

A mourning tent for the leader and pioneer of North and East Syria Revolution, Nour al-Din Sofi, was erected in the western neighborhood of Qamishlo three days ago. Thousands of individuals received and escorted yesterday the martyr's body, and his funeral was conducted today. Photographs of martyrs Nour al-Din Sofi, Koço Urfa, and Bakhtiyar Kabar, as well as Leader Abdullah Ocalan's photographs, were displayed in the mourning tents.

Notables and local leaders of al-Jazira Canton went to the tents of mourning, chanting the slogan "The martyrs are immortal." Members of the Martyrs' Families Council, institutions and bodies of Kongra Star, institutions and parties of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, the Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM), Arab tribal sheikhs, the Syriac Union Party in Syria, institutions and parties of the Syriac and Armenian components, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters and leaders, the Democratic Islam Conference, the Syrian Democratic Council, Rojava University professors, health institutions, the co-chair of the Autonomous Administration Executive Council, Avin Sweid, the deputy co-chair of the Autonomous Administration Executive Council, Hassan Kocher, the Syrian Democratic Forces leader, Luqman Khalil, Sheikh Murshid al-Khaznawi, the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party, Barwin Youssef, the co-chair of the Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM), Ramzia Mohammad, and the co-chair of the Martyrs' Families Council, Rezan Kalo, participated in the funeral to pay their respects to the family of the martyr Nour al-Din Sufi. It began with a minute's silence in honor of the martyrs. Then one of the Martyrs' Families Council members, Muhammad Jamil, remembered all the martyrs and martyr Nour al-Din Sofi, and said, "We began with the martyrs and continued with determination and willpower. We are heading toward freedom due to them. We have prevented the enemy's plans for the century, and we shall try our best to maintain the way of the martyrs."

Kawa Kalo spoke on behalf of the Syrian Democratic Forces, saying, "Comrade Nour al-Din Sofi has been involved in revolutionary work since the 1980s, following the method and ideology of Leader Abdullah Ocalan. Entering the Rojava Revolution, historical events have unfolded under his guidance. He was the vanguard in the unification of the elements of the region and the establishment of the People's Protection Units (YPG), the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), and the Syrian Democratic Forces. Today, all elements look to the Syrian Democratic Forces for liberty, due to combatants and revolutionaries like Comrade Nur al-Din Sufi, Khabat, and Ali."

During her speech, Ramziya Mohammed, co-chair of the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM), referred to the comradeship which united martyr Nour al-Din Sofi and women according to the right philosophy. She added, "Comrade Nour al-Din Sofi had contributed to the founding of the Democratic Society Movement and strived hard to do it. Comrade Nour al-Din Sofi is a student of Leader Abdullah Ocalan. He used to repeat and apply the words of Leader Abdullah Ocalan. We saw this in his practice. We must be loyal to our martyrs and realize we have a debt to them and pay this debt with struggle and action."

Then, Hassan Sharo, the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in al-Jazira Canton, delivered a speech on behalf of the administration. He offered his condolences to the martyr's family, saying, "The mountains of Kurdistan have become a target for occupying powers, but this has been met with unparalleled resistance and struggle. Young Kurdish men and women have sacrificed their lives for the sake of the homeland. The martyrdom of Nour al-Din Sofi demonstrated the people's loyalty to their martyrs and their cause, and embodied their determination to resist. We pledge to this people that we will follow in the footsteps of the martyr Nour al-Din Sofi and all the martyrs

In her speech, the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Barwin Yousef, explained that Martyr Noureddine headed to Rojava with great faith and the experience he gained from his long years of struggle in the mountains of Kurdistan and the training he received from Leader Abdullah Ocalan. She continued, saying, "He laid the foundation stone for the autonomous administration, which has become a model for all of Syria. We are fortunate to have fought under the training of Comrade Nour al-Din Sofi. Comrade Adil, Comrade Nour al-Din Sofi, we will fulfill the promise we made."

Sheikh Murshid al-Khaznawi also delivered a speech in which he remembered the martyr Nour al-Din Sofi, saying: “Today we are in the presence of the martyr Nour al-Din Sofi, but not in sadness, but in joy for his life, because the martyr is an idea and a banner on the path of truth and freedom. There is a big difference between death and martyrdom. Death is a general condition and is the fate of everyone. Patriots die, as do mercenaries and traitors, as do prophets and ordinary people. But martyrdom is a great status that not everyone attains, and the martyr Nour al-Din is one of those people for whom God has destined martyrdom. The other difference is that death is the end of life, but martyrdom is its beginning. The third difference is that we pray for the dead, while for the martyr we carry in our hearts something of his spirit, blood and efforts, and we carry the torch of his resistance to walk on the path of freedom. The martyr Nour al-Din was like a lamp illuminating the darkness of the path towards freedom. The families of the martyrs should not think that the blood of their sons was wasted, as we live every moment of our lives today in freedom. Therefore, we pledge to follow in their footsteps, for here we are, building a free homeland."

Afterwards, Bashir Mulla Nawaf, a professor at Rojava University, recited a poem entitled "Your Souls Are in the Sky of the Homeland," in which he spoke of the courage, heroism, and struggle of the martyr Noureddine Sofi and all the martyrs.

Mulla Garzani, the co-chair of the Democratic Islam Conference, also remembered the martyr and spoke of his struggle, saying, "Your impact will remain in the lofty mountains of Kurdistan."

Sanharib Barsoum, the co-chair of the Syriac Union Party in Syria, offered his condolences to the martyr's family and all the people of the region, on behalf of the Syriac community and the Syriac parties and organizations. He said, "Martyrs offer their people a free life."

On behalf of the Syrian Democratic Council, Hussein Azzam offered his condolences to the martyr's family and to the people.

The nephew of the martyr Nour al-Din Sofi, Ahmed Abdullah spoke on behalf of the martyr's family, welcoming everyone and thanking all those who participated in the reception and funeral ceremonies from Gari to Qamishlo. He said, "Nour al-Din is not just a son of this family, but of all Kurdish, Arab, and Syriac families and all the different communities here. Therefore, we offer our condolences to all communities. We also offer our condolences to the families of the martyrs Koçro Urfa and Bakhtiar Kabar. Comrade Nour al-Din fought against injustice for his cause, and we have reached great heights on all levels. Rojava has become an example to be emulated throughout Syria, and we are proud of him."

The family of the martyr Khabat Derik, who attended the funeral, also offered their condolences to the family of the martyr Nour al-Din.

The mourning tent will remain in place for several days to receive mourners.
