National guard in Swaida annonces member wounded by gunfire

A member of the National Guard in Swaida was wounded by gunfire along one of the contact lines west of the city, according to a statement issued by the force's command.

The National Guard Command announced on Wednesday that one of its members was wounded by gunfire—carried out by forces affiliated with the Damascus government—along a contact line in the western sector of the city of Swaida.

In a statement, the Command said: "At 8:15 this morning, Damascus government forces stationed at a contact point on the city's western axis fired a direct sniper shot at one of our members on duty there, in a clear and explicit violation of the truce zones."

The statement added that the member sustained a head injury from a fragment caused by the bullet ricocheting off a wall; he was transported to the military hospital for treatment, and his condition is being monitored.

The National Guard Command described the incident as a "recurring provocation," warned against the repetition of such truce violations, and declared that it would deal with any targeting of its positions or civilian areas "in accordance with rules of engagement" and would respond to any further violations.
