National Guard accuses interim govt. of violating ceasefire

In a statement issued this morning, the leadership of the National Guard forces in Sweida revealed that clashes had erupted yesterday, Sunday, in the Sweida countryside.

The National Guard confirmed that its forces confronted what it described as a breach of the ceasefire by the interim government, through the targeting of several positions and residential neighborhoods.

It described the interim government forces as “terrorist,” noting that they continue to target residential neighborhoods in Sweida, the town of Atil, and National Guard positions using heavy machine guns, mortar shells, and drones.

The statement added that the attacks were launched from interim government positions in the villages of Walgha, al-Mansoura, and Rima Hazem—areas it described as “occupied”—located along the western and northwestern axes of Sweida. It said these operations constitute a clear violation of the ceasefire and a direct attempt to “destabilize the security and stability of the region.”

It also noted that National Guard forces responded to the sources of fire and dealt with them using “appropriate means,” adding that casualties were recorded among the interim government forces.

In its conclusion, the National Guard leadership affirmed that any attack on the people of Sweida or its positions will be met with full force, stressing that they remain fully prepared to deter any violation or targeting, and that the security of the region and its residents is a red line that will not be crossed under any circumstances.
