MP: Women who understand meaning of war will succeed in peace process

Following the "Peace and Democratic Society" call made by leader Abdullah Ocalan on February 27, various segments of society began demanding the Turkish state to take action and implement necessary measures, with women's organizations leading this process.

The deputy in the Turkish parliament from the Peoples' Democratic Party in Mardin, Bêrtan Guneş Altin, who participated in the march in Amêdî on May 31 alongside tens of thousands of women, spoke to ANHA's agency about this issue.

Bêrtan Guneş Altin mentioned that the call for peace and a democratic society has placed significant responsibilities on women, saying: "This call carries important messages for women, and we are fighting on this basis."

Bêrtan Guneş Altin highlighted the importance of the parliamentary conference and the event organized by the Regional Democratic Women's Alliance for the Middle East and North Africa (NDA), saying, "Women are the ones who truly understand the meaning of war, so it will be women who succeed in the process."

Bêrtan Guneş Altin pointed out the significance of the parliamentary women's conference, saying: "The first Kurdish parliamentary women's conference held in Amêdî on May 28 and 29 was of great importance. This is not the first time Kurdish parliamentarians have gathered; similar activities have been organized before, with participation from the South (Başur), North (Bakur), and Rojava Kurdistan. Unfortunately, there was no participation from Rojhelat (Eastern Kurdistan), but their message was read. We had important discussions on how we can play our leading role in unity efforts, and the goal of establishing a secretariat for women's unity efforts emerged. As evident from the outcomes, we women have taken on significant responsibilities, and we hope these conferences will be a means for the unity and freedom of the Kurdish people."

Bêrtan Guneş Altin mentioned that these efforts aim to expand the scope of international struggle, and they evaluate the Nuda Conference on this basis.

Bêrtan Guneş Altin  added that leader Abdullah Ocalan stated during his meetings with the Imrali delegation that the issue of women is greater than the Kurdish issue. She concluded her remarks by saying, "We can say that this process is proceeding on two fronts: one will be a national unity process and a struggle for the rights of the Kurdish people's identity, and the other will be a women's struggle for identity. We do not separate these two issues. Women have once again proven to everyone that they will maintain peace. During the large march in Amêdî, women sent a clear message and extended their greetings to Imrali Island, showing that they will embrace peace. Women are the most affected by war, so they understand the meaning of war better than anyone else. Therefore, women will be the pioneers of peace and will lead the upcoming process."
