Mother attempts to set herself on fire in protest of her only son’s abduction in rural Aleppo

On Tuesday, October 6, members of the Transitional Government in Syria abducted 21-year-old Ramadan Khaled Baba from the village of Tal Aran. The abduction coincided with a raid on residents of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, reportedly under the pretext of listening to Kurdish music.

The kidnapped youth was transferred to Al-Waha Prison, located next to the Defense Factories in Aleppo, by the Transitional Government forces based in the Al-Safira area.

Around eight days after the incident, and with no response from the authorities to the family’s pleas, his elderly mother, Fadwa Rabee Oso, went to the Al-Safira center carrying a bottle of gasoline and attempted to set herself on fire in protest of her son’s abduction.

Instead of listening to her demands, members of the Transitional Government forces assaulted her, causing bruises. She was taken to a nearby hospital by local residents.

It is worth noting that the Transitional Government forces in Syria abducted six civilians from Tal Aran village, part of the Al-Safira region in southern rural Aleppo, on Tuesday, October 6. Three of the abductees Khalil Mohammad Bashar, Nader Bashar, and Hussein Bashar were later released. However, Ramadan Khaled Baba, the only child of his parents, remains in detention. It was reported that he was kidnapped for listening to a Kurdish song. His mother has also been threatened not to speak to the media about the incident.
