Missing persons on Syrian coast: Injuries, mysterious appearances, ongoing disappearances

Local sources from the Syrian coast reported that residents found Samar Ismail, a mother of four in her forties, who had been missing since Saturday after leaving her home to visit her sister in the Al-Da’tour neighborhood on the Al-Ghab road in rural Hama. She was initially taken to her sister’s house before returning to her home in Latakia.

The sources added that Samar showed signs of severe beating and was unable to stand or speak for hours after being found on Tuesday.

At the same time, young woman Hadeel Ajdari, a fifth-year student in the Psychological Counseling Department at Tishreen University in Latakia, returned after being missing since last Sunday when she went to the university. She appeared in a short video alongside her father and said: “I am Hadeel Muhammad Ajdari, a graduate in psychological counseling, born in 2002. I went missing on Sunday the 12th and returned today, the 14th.” Her father did not comment or provide any clarification about what happened or where she had been during her disappearance.

In contrast, 10-year-old Muhammad Qais Haidar remains kidnapped for more than a week after a group of masked gunmen abducted him in front of his school in the 10th Project neighborhood of Latakia, with no news about him so far.

Similarly, 34-year-old Naama Muhammad Ibrahim from the village of Kharbat al-Ma’za in rural Tartous has been missing since Monday, October 6, after leaving her home to travel to the city of Tartous. Her whereabouts remain completely unknown.

These cases are part of a series of disappearances that continue to worry residents of the Syrian coast, particularly amid a lack of transparency and repeated incidents without accountability.
