Medical source to ANHA denies receiving thousands of body bags

ANHA correspondent in Sweida reported, quoting a medical source from Suwayda National Hospital, that the circulated claims about supplying the national hospital with around 5,000 shrouds or “body bags” are false. The source confirmed that all such rumors are baseless, and their purpose is “to frighten residents with claims of preparations for massacres similar to those witnessed in Suwayda and its western and northern countryside more than four months ago.”

The source further explained that body bags are routinely included in shipments of medical aid and medicines, noting that the total number currently available in Suwayda is about 500 bags—around 200 of which are stored in the national hospital’s warehouse, while the rest are in the comprehensive clinics.

This quantity, the source emphasized, falls within the normal level that should be available at all times, especially in Sweida given the current circumstances and challenges, as well as the presence of bodies belonging to people from Sweida in hospitals in Damascus and in mass graves in Daraa that have not yet been identified. These bodies could be returned at any moment, and therefore Sweida hospitals will need these bags.
