Man, killed, his wife seriously injured by landmine explosion in rural Hama

A man was killed and his wife was critically injured, resulting in the amputation of both her legs, when a landmine exploded in the village of Khirbet al-Naqous in the northern Hama countryside.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that a man was killed and his wife injured by a landmine explosion in the village of Khirbet al-Naqous in the al-Ghab Plain in the northern Hama countryside.

The explosion occurred as the couple was passing through the vicinity of the village. The man was killed instantly, while his wife was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Due to the severity of her injuries, both her legs were amputated.

Syria continues to witness incidents of landmine explosions and other remnants of war, resulting in casualties, injuries, and permanent disabilities. There are calls to intensify demining operations and secure the areas to protect civilians.

The Syrian Observatory documented the number of people who lost their lives in various parts of Syria since the beginning of 2026 as a result of the explosion of objects, materials and ammunition left over from the Syrian war, amounting to 177 people, and 255 people were injured.
