Leader Ocalan: What happens in Syria is attempt to obstruct peace, democratic society process

The delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party, known as the "Imrali delegation," issued a written statement on Sunday following their visit, on Saturday, to Imrali Island, where they met with the leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The text of the statement included,

"On January 17, 2026, we met with Mr. Abdullah Ocalan on Imrali Island for approximately two and a half hours. During the meeting, Mr. Ocalan reaffirmed his commitment to the peace and democratic society process, and that the February 27th Initiative remains in place. In this context, he reiterated the importance of taking the necessary steps to advance the process.

The main focus of the meeting was the developments in Syria. Mr. Ocalan expressed his deep concern regarding the clashes and escalating tensions, considering them an attempt to undermine the peace and democratic society process. He emphasized that all problems in Syria can be resolved through dialogue, negotiation, and common sense.

He also affirmed his readiness to fulfill his responsibility to ensure that this issue is resolved through dialogue and the avoidance of conflict, and renewed his call for all actors to play their roles positively and act responsibly and sensitively in this regard."
