Leader Ocalan addresses TJA-led march highlighting role of women in freedom

Leader Abdullah Ocalan addressed the march, which was organized by the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) under the slogan “We walk to freedom with hope” and set off from the city of Amed towards the Turkish capital Ankara, through the Imrali delegation within the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM).

The text of leader Ocalan’s message reads:

"I believe that the march initiated by the women of the Free Women’s Movement (TJA), represents an important step on the path of democratic negotiations. I approach this issue as a necessity of participatory democracy. Democratic negotiations constitute the real solution that has emerged after more than three hundred years of wars and bloodshed, thanks to civil struggle.

Negotiation is a necessity in every relationship and should be regarded as a fundamental principle. In the relationship between women and men, this approach can form a solid foundation. Traditional relations are based on male dominance and female subordination, which is no longer acceptable. Because women reject this reality, they are moving confidently toward freedom.

I propose that women address their issues with the state, society, family, and men through negotiation. No one should speak in an authoritarian or commanding language; in the language of equality, we shall prevail.

On this basis, I send my respectful greetings to all comrades participating in the march and I value their efforts and dedication in the pursuit of freedom."
