Kurds in Lebanon commemorate 42nd anniversary of August 15 leap

The Democratic Union Party (PYD), in coordination with the Kongra Star organization in Lebanon, organized an event at the Sultan Rumi Hall in the capital, Beirut, marking the 42nd anniversary of the August 15 leap.

The event began with a minute of silence in honor of the souls of the martyrs. Rivan Mohammed, co-chair of the Democratic Union Party in Lebanon, then delivered a speech commemorating the anniversary of the August 15 leap. She emphasized that the anniversary does not represent merely an occasion or a historical legacy, but rather marks the beginning of a path of resistance and struggle, noting that “the results of this journey are visible today on the political scene.”

She stressed that the blood of the martyrs had not been shed in vain and that the Kurdish struggle had demonstrated its continuity until the achievement of the rights demanded by the Kurdish people.

She added that Kurds are currently engaged in dialogue with various forces in order to defend the values of the Kurdish people and continue the struggle that has extended over 42 years. She described the current phase entered by the Kurdish Freedom Movement as a transitional and qualitative stage aimed at building dialogue and laying the foundations for a new phase that preserves the values of the martyrs and ensures the continuation of the struggle.

For her part, Zainab Khalil, a member of Kongra Star in Lebanon, said that the August 15 leap was not only the beginning of armed struggle, but also served as a spark for freedom and contributed to breaking the restrictions imposed on women.

Meanwhile, Lawand Ahmad Abd, a member of the Democratic Union Party’s youth organization, commemorated the anniversary of the August 15 leap and affirmed that young people would continue their struggle in the footsteps of martyr Agid and the other martyrs.

He pointed out that preserving the legacy of 42 years rests with Kurdish youth in the various areas where they live and struggle, calling for the continuation of this approach and the preservation of what has been achieved over the past decades.

The event also featured artistic and folkloric performances, including performances by the Azhar al-Qaed children’s folk dance troupe, the Welat Roje folk music troupe, the Rojinda youth folk dance troupe, as well as singer Mufida Hamdi, the Hindak wa Randak theater troupe, and artists Yasser Bilal and Mohammed Kobani.

The event concluded with attendees chanting “The martyrs are immortal” and forming traditional dabke circles to the rhythm of folkloric songs.
