Kurdish Women’s National Unity Committee calls for inclusive Kurdistan National Conference

The committee affirmed that the Rojava experience represents a pivotal milestone in the modern history of the Kurdish people and has contributed to reviving national consciousness across Kurdistan and among Kurdish diaspora communities abroad.

In a statement issued Saturday, the committee highlighted the pioneering role of Kurdish women in arenas of resistance, noting that their willpower was embodied in the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), which formed the first line of defense against terrorism and extremism and contributed to protecting Kurdish society and the world from the threat posed by ISIS mercenaries.

The committee also expressed pride in the struggle of young men and women who stood at the forefront of what it described as “legitimate defense,” voicing appreciation for Kurds across all regions and in European and diaspora communities for their role in supporting the Kurdish cause and amplifying its voice internationally.

The statement said that the political, cultural, and educational gains achieved in Rojava over the past fourteen years were the result of sustained struggle, sacrifice, and the fight against terrorism, stressing that these achievements, foremost among them women’s empowerment and the strengthening of civil institutions, constitute historic accomplishments that cannot be relinquished.

In the same context, the statement warned of challenges threatening the existence and identity of the Kurdish people, pointing to measures that have curtailed fundamental rights and impacted national gains, underscoring the need to unify Kurdish ranks and formulate a shared national strategy grounded in supreme national interest.

The committee called for holding an inclusive Kurdistan National Conference that would strengthen Kurdish presence as a fundamental partner in any future political settlement. It also urged the Syrian Interim Government to constitutionally recognize the Kurdish people as an indigenous people living on their historic land and to guarantee their political, cultural, and national rights in accordance with principles of justice and equality.

The statement further stressed the importance of addressing the international community and relevant actors at both national and global levels, affirming that ignoring Kurdish rights or failing to recognize their national gains would not deter the Kurdish people from continuing to defend their legitimate rights through democratic principles and peaceful means that respect international law and humanitarian standards. It added that international support and recognition of Kurdish rights constitute a genuine guarantee for achieving stability and consolidating lasting peace in the region.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the committee’s commitment to continuing peaceful struggle and protecting existing gains, stressing that recognition and support of Kurdish rights contribute to stability and enduring peace in the region, while their denial would not dissuade the Kurdish people from defending their legitimate rights through peaceful means and in accordance with international law.
