Kurdish Tribes to hold conference for promoting peace, coexistence

Amid the rise of hate speech and attempts to sow discord in NE Syria following the fall of the Baathist regime, Kurdish tribes are moving to reinforce their social and national role, affirming their support for political and military forces in protecting the region and preserving civil peace.

Dr. Barzan Suleiman, the member of the preparatory committee for the Kurdish Tribes Union conference, told our agency about their efforts, saying:

"As a result of the increase in hate speech against Kurds following the fall of the Baathist regime, we saw it as our duty as Kurdish tribes in the region to curb this hate speech, extend a hand of brotherhood, support our political and military forces, and play a role in peace."

He added: "If there is a danger to our people and regions, we will stand with our forces to protect the area, its people, and its achievements. We are neither pioneers nor opponents of anyone, but we believe that we, the Kurdish tribes, must have a positive role in the current stage."

He continued: "For the past two months, we have been working to include and unite Kurdish tribes. So far, we have met six Kurdish tribes and will meet the rest to hold a conference by the New Year."

Dr. Suleiman noted that: "Our union of tribes is social in nature, but today society and politics are not separate, so we say that we do not occupy the place of politicians or military forces; rather, we stand with them and will support them at this stage, as the Kurdish society is based on the tribal and clan system."

He emphasized: "By uniting the tribes and clans in the region, we can organize our people and achieve Kurdish demands for unity."

Suleiman pointed out that:

"With the Kurdish Tribes Conference, we will meet with Arab tribes alongside Christians, Armenians, and all other communities in the region. We are not advocates of war but of peace. If anyone tries to harm our people, we will not remain idle."

In conclusion, Dr. Barzan Suleiman said:

"From the time the Baath regime ruled Syria until its fall, it was never able to sow discord among the region’s people. It always failed, and today the authorities in Damascus are trying to play on this chord, but they have also failed so far due to the prudence of our communities and regions."
