Kurdish prisoner dies under mysterious circumstances in East Kurdistan

A Kurdish prisoner died in Salmas Prison in East Kurdistan due to being denied of medical care and being subjected to torture before his death.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network announced the death of a Kurdish prisoner inside Salmas Prison in East Kurdistan under mysterious circumstances, noting that his family intends to file an official complaint against the prison administration.

In a statement, the network mentioned that the prisoner was called Wahid Omari, from the village of Khorkhura in the Salmas province of Urmia, and he died as a result of being denied of necessary medical care under what were described as suspicious circumstances.

The statement added that the prison administration refused to transfer Omari to a hospital in a timely manner, despite his deteriorating health status, and indicated that he had been subjected to torture and beatings before his death.

The network explained that this incident is considered the second death of a Kurdish prisoner in a week due to the denial of medical treatment and care, raising increasing concerns about the conditions of prisoners and detention in the region's prisons.
