Kongra Star: Perpetrators of femicide must Prosecuted

Yesterday, Sunday, a woman was killed in the Qaddour Bek neighborhood of Qamishlo. In response, women in Qamishlo, along with members of the Kongra Star Council, gathered in front of Sony Roundabout in the city and issued a statement denouncing the crime. The statement was read by the spokesperson for Kongra Star in Qamishlo, Ibtisam Hussein.

The statement highlighted the active and influential role of women in North and East Syria, noting that this does not suit those who clinging to patriarchal mindsets.

The statement added: "One of the most significant achievements of women during the Rojava and North and East Syria Revolution, known as the Women's Revolution, is their recognition of their existence and their emergence as a force with willpower in society." This, the statement noted, has caused concern among those who hold onto patriarchal attitudes and reject women's liberation.

The statement referenced the murder of a woman in Qamishlo, pointing out that "under the pretext of 'honor, religion, and sexism,' the most heinous crimes are committed against women, leading to their deaths."

The statement strongly condemned acts of femicide, stating: "We see the killing of women as the killing of life, future generations, and society as a whole."

The statement called on the relevant authorities to severely punish the perpetrators of femicide. It continued: "As a women's movement, we will never accept policies of women's extermination and will stand against these crimes. We will ensure women's freedom through education and organization. We will liberate all women from diverse backgrounds (Kurds, Arabs, Armenians, and Circassians) in Kurdistan, Syria, and the world."

The statement concluded with the slogan: "Women, Life, Freedom."
