KNK: Kurdish people’s demand is unity, parties must achieve it

On January 29, a delegation from the KNK traveled to Rojava, where it held meetings with Kurdish political parties. These meetings are still ongoing. In this context, Dr. Hakim Abdul Karim and Dr. Sherko Hama Amin, members of the Executive Council from Southern Kurdistan and part of the delegation, spoke to the ANHA agency.

‘The Kurdish people demand unity’

Dr. Hakim Abdul Karim explained that following the attacks on Rojava, it became clear that there is an international plan targeting the region. He said: “It became evident that there is an urgent need for strength and unity among the Kurdish people. The Kurdish people rose up across Kurdistan and around the world, and the Kurdistan National Congress saw supporting its people as a national duty. Once again, we saw that the Kurdish people are demanding unity; therefore, political parties are compelled to respond to the will of the people. It has become clear that Kurdish unity is the only force capable of confronting plans aimed at destroying the Kurds.”

He added: “As great as the dangers facing the Kurdish people are, there are also great opportunities—chief among them comprehensive unity among the Kurdish people. We must not pin our hopes on external powers; our only strength lies in Kurdish unity. In Rojava, we witnessed the high morale of our people. It is everyone’s duty to be ready and to take part in the resistance of Rojava. The hope of our people is the convening of a national congress.”

‘Activities in support of Rojava must continue’

For his part, Dr. Sherko Hama Amin said they came to support the resistance in Rojava, adding: “It is our duty to stand today alongside our people who are facing an international genocide. It is our responsibility to protect the unity that has been formed among the people. At present, there are talks between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the interim government in Damascus, and we must strengthen our people’s position and power. We must continue to support our people in Rojava by all possible means, in order to protect the legitimate cause of the people of Kurdistan.”
