Jubour Tribe adviser calls for unity and equal rights in Syria

Calls are growing for the consolidation of social stability and the promotion of coexistence among the country’s various components amid the challenges Syria is facing during the current phase. There is also increasing emphasis on safeguarding cultural, linguistic, and historical rights as a means of building a state founded on equal citizenship and respect for diversity.

In this context, Jubour Tribe adviser Sheikh Akram Al-Mahshoush said:

"The truth about the mouthpieces and agitators working against the region has been exposed. They have sought to sow discord among its diverse components, and the intentions of everyone attempting to undermine stability and destroy the social fabric have become clear. We, as tribes, categorically reject all attempts to incite strife or create division among the people of the region, because our unity and cohesion are the primary guarantees for preserving security and stability."

He added: "The voices seeking to fragment society and provoke disputes among its components have weakened and their true nature has been revealed to everyone. They are no longer capable of exerting the influence they had hoped for. Today, we are more united and cohesive, and we believe in the importance of coexistence within a united Syria that embraces all its people without exception. What we aspire to is improving living and service conditions in the region, preserving human dignity, and respecting people’s rights regardless of their ethnic, religious, or social affiliation. No component is superior to another. We also place our trust in the awareness of the people of the region and affirm that these inciting voices will have no significant impact in the future."

Al-Mahshoush stressed: “The Jazira Canton is home to diverse components belonging to more than one religion and ethnicity. Over the past years, the region has witnessed numerous attempts to fragment society and weaken its social and historical bonds, but those efforts have failed. Our people remain united, and the historical and social ties that bind them have remained strong, despite being affected to a limited extent during the early stages of the events witnessed by the country."

He pointed out that: "The new Syrian constitution must guarantee the rights of all components without exception and ensure their ability to exercise their cultural, linguistic, and social rights on an equal basis. All national components also share a common responsibility to work toward securing and protecting the rights of all Syrian components, free from exclusion or marginalization. We support safeguarding the cultural and linguistic rights of different components and ensuring that these rights are clearly and explicitly enshrined in the constitution of future Syria."

Al-Mahshoush further called on the interim government to work seriously to preserve the cultural, linguistic, and historical rights of all Syrian components and to take the necessary steps to strengthen national partnership and consolidate the principles of justice and equal citizenship among all citizens.

Concluding his remarks, he said: “Our people must recognize the sensitivity of the current stage and the national responsibility it requires. They should distance themselves from hate speech, incitement, and resentment, and reject everything that could provoke disputes or divisions among components and religions. Syria’s future must be built on the foundations of coexistence, tolerance, and mutual respect. We must reach a Syria that belongs to all Syrians—a state that unites its people under the umbrella of citizenship and equal rights without discrimination or distinction."
