JIN TV correspondent condemns Closure of media company in S. Kurdistan

Loristan Darwish, correspondent for JIN TV in North and East Syria, spoke to ANHA agency about the raid and closure by the Asayish forces in South Kurdistan of four women’s organizations, including Kazngi Barbiyani Company, which produces exclusive programs for the channel in Sulaymaniyah, on Tuesday.

Loristan Darwish denounced the attack and the closure of the centers in Southern Kurdistan, as well as the shutdown of Kazngi Barbiyani Company, which produces programs for JIN TV.

Loristan pointed out that Kazngi Barbiyani Company focused on women’s issues and monitored the situation of women in South Kurdistan. The achievements made by women were a key and essential part of the company’s news broadcasts. She stated, “Through these attacks, they want to destroy women’s achievements after the Rojava Kurdistan Revolution. They see women’s accomplishments as a threat to them.”

Loristan Darwish highlighted the targeting of journalists Gulistan Tara and Hero Bahadin, who were martyred on August 23, 2023, as a result of a drone attack by the Turkish occupation in Sulaymaniyah. She noted that the targeting of the two journalists coincided with the anniversary of JIN TV’s founding. She added, “With the same mentality, the company was attacked and closed.”

Loristan continued, “This is not the first time that female journalists, agencies, and women’s organizations have been targeted and arrested. Recently, journalists Cîhan Bîlgîn and Nazim Dashtan were also targeted on December 19, 2024, by a Turkish occupation drone on the Serrin-Kobani road.”

Loristan pointed out that while Kurds are going through a critical phase between existence and non-existence, institutions in South Kurdistan are being closed.

At the end of her statement, Loristan Darwish emphasized that the obstacles and measures they face will not prevent them from continuing their work. She added, “We are the ones who convey the struggle and resistance of women to the public everywhere. We are targeted. Therefore, in every part of Kurdistan, we will continue our media work.”
