ISIS carried out about 500 operations during 2024

The year 2024 witnessed a noticeable escalation in the activities of ISIS mercenaries, as not a day passed without a bombing, ambush, targeting, or lightning attack occurring in the Syrian desert and the NE Syria. These attacks resulted in the deaths of hundreds, according to what was documented by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

On the other hand, the Syrian Democratic Forces, in cooperation with the International Coalition, launched counter-security campaigns, in addition to the security operations that the former regime forces launched from time to time, in addition to intermittent air strikes by the Russian Air Force. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reviewed the details of its activity and operations within the various areas of control during the year 2024.

ISIS activities in the Syrian desert

ISIS mercenaries carried out more than 227 operations in the Syrian desert during the year 2024, resulting in the killing of 646 people.

Operations in AANES  areas

In the NE Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the implementation of more than 264 operations by ISIS mercenary cells during the year 2024, including Deir ez-Zor, Hasaka, Aleppo, and Raqqa. These operations varied between armed attacks and assassinations using different methods, such as shooting and planting explosive devices. 120 people were killed as a result of these operations.

International coalition cooperation

During the year 2024, the Syrian Observatory counted the participation of the international coalition in 62 joint security operations with the Syrian Democratic Forces in the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Hasaka, Raqqa, and Aleppo, represented by raids, airdrops, and targeting, which resulted in the arrest of 375 mercenaries and ISIS leaders, in addition to the killing of 26 of them.

Targeting ISIS

The Observatory also documented the killing of 117 ISIS mercenaries and leaders on Syrian territory during the year 2024, as a result of ground and air attacks by various military authorities.

Security challenges continue in the region, with ISIS continuing its activity and exploiting political and military unrest to achieve its goals and reorganize its ranks
