ISIS mercenaries arrested north of Deir ez-Zor

The Media Center of the Internal Forces of North and East Syria published a news item on its website today, announcing the arrest of two mercenaries from ISIS cells north of Deir ez-Zor. The statement read:

 "The H.A.T. Special Forces, in coordination with the General Security Service, arrested two members belonging to ISIS cells north of Deir ez-Zor on the morning of Tuesday, May 6, following a tight security operation and close monitoring of the movements of the suspects. The suspects were involved in activities that threaten security and stability in the region, including terrorizing civilians and targeting security checkpoints. After identifying their locations, the Special Forces carried out a special operation that resulted in their arrest and the seizure of weapons and documents in their possession."

The center added: "Our security forces have begun preliminary investigations with the detainees, in preparation for completing legal procedures and referring them to the judiciary in accordance with due process."

It noted that "ISIS cells have witnessed increased activity in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, where they have carried out several attacks targeting checkpoints and security sites, in an attempt to destabilize the region."

And emphasized: "In light of the recent increase in the activity of ISIS terrorist cells, we affirm that it is our duty as internal security forces to respond and deter all terrorist attempts, to protect our people and ensure the security and stability of our regions."
