Al-Bukamal-Al-Qaim border crossing between Syria and Iraq is closed to traffic, following an attack on Iraqi travelers inside Syrian territory.

The closure, imposed by Iraqi authorities, has caused security tensions and brought all traffic to a complete standstill.

Activists shared video footage showing a man assaulting an Iraqi traveler, confiscating his car, in addition to verbally abusing him.

According to local sources, the attack on the Iraqi travelers stems from a widespread controversy on social media on an Iraqi court ruling sentencing a young Syrian man to death. Some platforms claimed the sentence was issued for "glorifying Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa," but the Iraqi judiciary denied this, asserting that the conviction was related to "glorifying the terrorist Abo Bakr al-Baghdadi and inciting the killing of members of the Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Forces."
