"Intellectuals should reinforce path of unity"

At a time when Rojava, South, and East Kurdistan are under attacks targeting the Kurdish people, and Kurds in North Kurdistan face political extermination, calls are growing from all parts of Kurdistan to achieve unity—especially from intellectuals who stress the importance of dedicating their pens and feelings to this goal.

In this context, Shbal Saeed Youssef, a member of the administrative body of the Rojava Intellectuals Union (HRRK), told our agency that Kurdish unity is the dream and aspiration of 50–60 million Kurds.

She added: “The role of intellectuals here is extremely important. The Kurdish people have made great efforts and immense sacrifices, yet the political sphere still urgently needs unity. In my view, through the cultural path and free thought, we can express our opinions without fear of political parties. As intellectuals, we hope to strengthen and consolidate this path toward unity.”

Meanwhile, writer and head of the Free Word Forum (Azad Peyva Yaneya), Hussein Ahmed, stated that an intellectual is the one who shapes true, authentic humanity, politics, and civil society, and is the one who records the history of peoples.

He emphasized that the primary role in building unity lies with intellectuals, saying: “Unity is a necessity for Kurds at all times. We, as Kurds, urgently need unity because enemies are attacking Kurds from all sides—in Rojava, South, North, and East Kurdistan.”

Concluding, he said: “For Kurds to stand against the enemy, they must unite and put their hands in each other’s hands.”
