In commemoration of Qamishlo Uprising…Call for unity to build democratic Syria

The people of North and East Syria and Aleppo remembered the martyrs of the March 12th Uprising through a series of events. They emphasized that the Qamishlo Uprising was the first spark towards realizing the just cause and achieving freedom and democracy. The call was made for the unity of the Syrian people, with all their components, and for working towards building a democratic Syria.

As part of the annual commemoration of the 21st anniversary of the Qamishlo Uprising, a variety of activities were organized, including sports events and protests, along with remembrance of the martyrs at their graves. Political parties, civil society organizations, popular councils, and institutions of the Autonomous Administration issued statements in cities such as Aleppo, Kobani, Ain Issa, Raqqa, Tabqa, Al-Hasaka, Hol, Tal Brak, Al-Shaddadi, Derbasiyah, Tirbespiye, Tal Koçer, Tal Hamis, Amuda, Girkê Legê, and Romelan across the North and East Syria region.

The statements and participants in the events highlighted that the uprising was a sincere expression of the will of a people seeking freedom and dignity, and a rejection of decades of marginalization and discrimination against the components that sought to achieve their legitimate rights.

They explained that the suppression of the uprising led to a strong popular reaction, which spread to cities and towns from Derik to Afrin, Aleppo, and Damascus, evolving into what was described as solidarity marches with the martyrs.

The agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Damascus was noted as the path towards freedom and co-existence in an atmosphere of peace and harmony.

It was also pointed out that the country is witnessing significant developments, including the fall of the Ba'athist dictatorship, the call of leader Abdullah Ocalan for peace in the region, the bloody events in the coastal region, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the SDF and the Damascus authorities.

The call was made for the unity of the Kurdish front and all components, to represent the will and aspirations of the people in this critical and decisive stage. The Syrian people, in all their components, were urged to unite, stand together, and strive for the building of a democratic Syria. This uprising is considered the first spark and the foundational stone of the Syrian people's revolution against the former Syrian regime.

They called for the construction of a new Syria based on the principles of democracy and justice, to achieve all the goals and aspirations of the Syrian people.
