QAMISHLO

As part of the activities commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Qamishlo, Girkê Legê, and Derik cities' men, along with members of civil society organizations in Jazira canton, went in a march organized by the Kongra Star.

The march began at Martyr Khabat Square in Girkê Legê and proceeded through the main streets. The participants carried banners with "No to violence against women" and "To build a democratic society, no to violence against women."

The march reached the central market, where the participants held a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs. Then, Nuzha Saif Eddin, the member of the Kongra Star in Jel Agha, spoke and emphasized the need to intensify efforts to reduce violence.

She stated that "violence against women remains a challenge to the development of society," and explained that men's support for women's rights is not a secondary matter, but rather a moral obligation and a social responsibility that begins within the home.

She added, "Society cannot progress unless women's dignity is protected," noting that changing patriarchal mindsets requires daily effort and genuine respect for women's role in all aspects of life.

For his part, Fayez Khalil, the member of the Democratic Union Party, pointed out that supporting women's struggle against violence is supporting a safe and just future for all. He added that men are essential partners in ending violence and must be role models in promoting equality within society.

He emphasized that achieving a democratic society begins with men's awareness of their responsibilities towards women's issue, and that men's supportive voices are a crucial part of confronting violence, and standing beside women contributes to establishing the values of justice and co-existence.

The march concluded with the men chanting the slogan, "Women, Life, Freedom."

Tirbê Spîyê

In a related context, men from the cities of Tirbê Spîyê and Tel Hamis marched from the Kongra Star Center, east of Tirbê Spîyê, carrying Kongra Star flags and leader Abdullah Ocalan's pictures.

The march proceeded through the central market, amid participants' chanting slogans condemning violence against women and calling for the protection of their dignity. Upon reaching the end of the market, the participants held a minute of silence. Then, Ghalia Mohamed al-Khadir, the administrator at the Kongra Star in Tel Hamis, noted that the region is experiencing complex political, social, and military circumstances, which have directly impacted the lives of women.

Ghalia explained that women are still subjected to all forms of violence, emphasizing the need to stand against anything that targets women and seeks to undermine their freedom.

For his part, Hussein Omer, the member of the Democratic Union Party in Tirbê Spîyê city, stated that men must adhere to the principles of women's liberation and strive to prevent violations against them and change the mindset that excludes women.

The march concluded with chants calling for women's freedom and praising their achievements.
