Humanitarian situation in Kobani worsens amid ongoing siege 

For the 13th consecutive day, over 600,000 residents of Kobani in North and East Syria are living under a strict blockade, with a severe shortage of medicines that endangers the lives of cancer and heart patients who were receiving treatment outside the city. Many treatment plans remain halted midway.

Children and the elderly face the risk of illness due to freezing temperatures and the lack of basic necessities.

The Autonomous Administration’s bakeries in Kobani are operating at full capacity, according to ANHA correspondent in the city, to provide bread. However, the scarcity of fuel, yeast, and flour threatens to halt production if the siege continues.

The city is also experiencing a severe shortage of vegetables due to difficulties for citizens and farmers in reaching their orchards. Other food supplies in local shops and markets are gradually running out, prompting residents to adopt austerity measures to make remaining provisions last longer.

Despite these conditions, the residents remain determined to endure and protect their neighborhoods.

The local administration and humanitarian organizations in the city continue to provide support to displaced persons within available capacities, hosting them in schools, mosques, and homes, and supplying basic necessities to alleviate the impact of the siege.

Although an agreement was announced between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Government, the blockade remains in place.

Meanwhile, Turkish authorities continue to refuse opening the border with Kobani for the passage of humanitarian aid coming from northern Kurdistan, organized by the People’s Equality and Democratic Party to meet the basic needs of residents, according to sources in Turkey speaking to ANHA agency.
