HPG reveal record of commander Nuradin Sofi, fellow fighter

Today, the media center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG-BİM) published the record of commander Nuradin Sofi and fighter Baxtiyar Gabar, who was with him on the visit to the People’s Defense Forces center. The written statement reads as follows:

“Comrade Nuradin Sofi, by joining the Kurdistan freedom struggle, waged continuous and uninterrupted struggle for 24 years from 1990 to 2013 within the ranks of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), then an additional 8 years after leaving the ranks of the guerrilla and joining the Rojava freedom revolution, bringing his total struggle to 32 years. He held the highest responsibilities within the ranks of the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas, from fighter to leadership at the HPG General Headquarters. He never hesitated to sacrifice anything for the freedom struggle of our people, eagerly taking on every task, big or small, fulfilling his revolutionary duties. With the expansion of the Rojava freedom revolution and the intensification of attacks on it, he voluntarily left the guerrilla ranks and joined the Rojava Freedom Forces, where he also took on important military and political responsibilities and led operations. On April 6, 2021, during his visit to the command center of the People’s Defense Forces in the mountains of Kurdistan, where he had spent 24 years, to meet his old comrades, he was martyred in an enemy attack.

Comrade Baxtiyar Gabar, the veteran fighter who accompanied comrade Nuradin Sofi on his visit and assisted him, also earned the honor of martyrdom alongside him. Baxtiyar, the brave son of Botan, was a young revolutionary, quick, dynamic, and intelligent like comrade Sofi, and joined the martyrs while carrying out an important mission.

As we remember comrade Nuradin Sofi, pioneer of the Kurdish people, and comrade veteran fighter Baxtiyar Gabar, in the spirit of the August 15 uprising, we vow to be worthy of their struggle and heroic stance. We affirm our determination to escalate the struggle based on what comrade Sofi taught us, embodying his authentic revolutionary character in a true Kurdish identity, as a banner in the freedom struggle of our people. With these sentiments, we extend our condolences first to their honorable families and to the struggling Kurdish people.”
