Hasakah Elders demand probe into Sheikh Fayez Al-Namis’ death

Fayez Al-Namis, one of the notable figures of the Al-Bu Salama tribe and a member of the Hasakah Council of Elders, died inside the prisons of the Syrian Interim Government in the capital, Damascus, after being detained along with his two sons since April 2025 on charges of belonging to the “remnants of the former regime.” His death was announced on May 20.

In its statement, the Hasakah Council of Elders demanded an immediate and transparent investigation, while urging people to act wisely, remain calm, and wait for the official investigation results.

The statement said that the death of Sheikh Fayez Al-Namis caused concern and anger among tribal members and residents of the region due to the respected social standing and good reputation he enjoyed among the people.

The council stressed the importance of informing the public and the victim’s family of the investigation results “with full clarity and credibility.” It also called for handling the case responsibly in a way that preserves security and stability and prevents the spread of rumors or the exploitation of the incident in ways that could harm civil peace and social unity.

The Hasakah Council of Elders also expressed confidence that justice would prevail and the truth would emerge, calling on everyone to exercise wisdom and self-restraint while awaiting the official investigation results.

The statement concluded by offering condolences to the family of Sheikh Fayez Al-Namis and wishing him mercy and forgiveness.
