Hamdan al-Abd: Turkish occupation is real threat to Syria

Amid ongoing regional interventions that deepen the complexity of the Syrian scene, Hamdan al-Abd, Co–Vice President of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration, stated that Ankara has for years systematically interfered in Syrian affairs under the pretext of protecting its national security, while its true aim is to impose political, military, and economic influence over large parts of the country.

In an exclusive statement to ANHA agency, al-Abd stressed that these interventions obstruct the path toward a political solution and target the project of democratic self-administration. He called on the international community to take a firm stance to end Turkey’s violations and ensure stability in North and East Syria.

Hamdan al-Abd said: “For the past fourteen years, Ankara has supported armed factions with Islamist orientations, using them as tools to implement its agenda inside Syrian territory.” He added that Turkey has occupied Syrian areas such as Serê Kaniyê , Girê Spî, and Afrin under the pretext of national security, while its real objective is to expand its control and turn those regions into administrative and economic extensions of Turkey.

He explained that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), since their establishment, have been formed to combat terrorism represented by ISIS, not to attack anyone or pursue political ambitions. “These forces have sacrificed thousands of martyrs to liberate Syrian lands from terrorism and now work to protect Syria’s borders and ensure the safety and stability of civilians,” he said.

Al-Abd criticized Turkey’s occupation policies, describing them as destructive and aimed at weakening the Autonomous Administration by targeting infrastructure, electricity and oil facilities, and obstructing efforts to achieve political and economic stability in North and East Syria.

He further stated that the Autonomous Administration relies on dialogue and peaceful solutions instead of the language of weapons and seeks to build a democratic, pluralistic model that guarantees all ethnic and religious components the right to Autonomous Administration.

Turkish Claims Are False and Malicious

Al-Abd called on the international community, especially the United States, to act as a genuine guarantor to stop Turkish violations and end its repeated attacks on North and East Syria. He affirmed that Turkey’s claims about the SDF threatening its national security are false and malicious, while the real danger lies in Turkey’s ongoing occupation of Syrian land and its destructive policies.

He concluded by stressing that the Autonomous Administration remains committed to the democratic path and national dialogue and upholds the Syrian people's right to freedom and peace. He emphasized that a comprehensive political solution—free from external interference and expansionist agendas—remains the only way to end the Syrian crisis and preserve the country’s unity and stability.
