Generator owners in the city of Derbasiya have reduced their operating hours to four hours daily, following a decision by the Syrian Interim Government to halt subsidized diesel fuel deliveries to Hasakah Governorate.

Generator owners in the city of Derbasiya have reduced their electricity operating hours to four hours daily, following a decision by the Syrian Interim Government to halt subsidized diesel fuel deliveries to Hasakah Governorate, as part of what it said was an effort to unify fuel prices in Syria.

Under the new system, generators will operate daily from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Generator operating hours had previously been reduced from eight to six hours daily, before being further reduced to four hours, due to the repercussions of the decision to halt subsidized diesel fuel.

So far, the city has not witnessed any increase in the price per ampere despite the reduced operating hours, and subscription fees remain unchanged.

The reduction in generator operating hours raises questions about the sustainability of current prices if the diesel fuel shortage persists, and the extent to which this decision will affect the operation of neighborhood generators in the coming period.
