Gaza war reflects negatively on Syria

A UN official warned of the possibility of a broader escalation in Syria, as a result of the war between Israel and Hamas. Most analyzes also warn that this war will increase the intensity of extremist rhetoric in the region, and may give an impetus to the mercenaries (ISIS and Jabhet al-Nusra) by exploiting this atmosphere.

Najat Rushdi, Deputy UN Special Envoy for Syria, expressed her deep concern about the possibility of a broader escalation, noting that the effects of the tragic developments resulting from the war between Hamas and Israel are still being reflected inside Syria.

In this context, the academic and political researcher, Ibrahim Muslim, considered that what is happening in Gaza is: “the beginning of Arab-Israeli normalization, led by Saudi Arabia and the Arab Gulf,” and pointed out that: “The fate of Gaza will be like the fate of the West Bank, and later Israel will undertake reconstruction initiatives.” In Gaza until it became clear to the Palestinians that it was better for them than Hamas and terrorist armed groups that caused the tragic situation that the Gazans are now living in.”

Ibrahim Muslim stressed that what is happening in Gaza “reflected negatively on the situation in Syria, which led to the reproduction of ISIS in the Syrian desert. The Syrian opposition was divided into a section defending Gaza and a section in solidarity with Israel against Hamas, as it is supported by Iran and the Syrian regime, and the war in... Gaza may benefit the Syrian regime, as the more extremist the Syrian opposition becomes, the greater the regime’s chances in the region.”

Regarding his opinion on the solution in Syria, Muslim sees it as: “It lies in unifying the moderate democratic opposition, and here I mean the east of the Euphrates with its west after the end of the Turkish occupation. Unifying the opposition means the end of Assad and his regime and thus the exit of Iran from the region, which leads to stability in the entire Middle East.”
