A member of the Presidential Body of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Fawza Youssef, spoke to ANHA's agency on the occasion of International Women's Day, which falls on March 8 of each year.

Fawza Youssef pointed out that International Women’s Day will be welcomed this year with a new women’s uprising, and she said: “There is great women’s preparation for this day. The struggle of women on March 8 has been going on for a century, and it continues with a strong will and a great stance in all parts of the world with the continuation of women’s resistance and activities, and this “This indicates that the struggle for women’s freedom is a strategic and global struggle, and will continue throughout the world until the fall of the sexist regime.”

Sexist fanatics seek to eliminate the women’s revolution with attacks.”

March 8 will be welcomed in Rojava Kurdistan in light of the women’s revolution, and this is what distinguishes it from other places around the world, and there are violent attacks on this women’s revolution.

Fawza Youssef commented on women’s struggle against the attacks they are exposed to, especially the attacks of the Turkish occupation state and sexist forces, by saying: “Rojava Kurdistan and North and East Syria are witnessing historical steps. They are witnessing change, social transformation, and a change in the political system led by women and their leadership, so these sexist forces, led by Turkey, are at risk from the women’s revolution. Therefore, they see the revolution as a threat to their fascist and sexist regime, and for this reason they seek to eliminate this revolution. They realize that the women’s revolution can bring about great changes and transformations in all parts of the world and not only in Syria, so it launches attacks to prevent this and to subject women to its control again and women here are actively involved in all fields and play a pioneering role. During these years and despite all these attacks, women have shown very clearly that the free will and awareness that has been achieved and the struggle in which hundreds of women have sacrificed with their lives for it sake, it will continue until victory is achieved and the fascist regime is overthrown.”

“Women fear not death but slavery.”

“A woman is martyred, and thousands follow in her footsteps.” With these words, Fawza Youssef pointed out that women do not fear death, but only fear slavery, and she said: “They can no longer intimidate women or intimidate them with killing, as women in North and East Syria have defeated ISIS, which represents the reactionary regime.” They defeated the most extremist forces, so women developed great self-confidence, and women are proving their presence today in all areas of life, organizing themselves, and possessing the determination and decision to build a new system, so women are leading an uprising against attacks and violence.”

The first women's uprising

Fawza Youssef pointed out that the first uprising of women was against her backwardness, while her second uprising was against her family and the backwardness of society. She continued her speech by saying: “In the beginning, the women challenged themselves and overcame their weaknesses, as the model of the fragile, helpless and unconfident woman who saw herself as a woman was destroyed.” In the shadow of men until the end, in Rojavay Kurdistan largely, then women began the struggle against the family, sexual discrimination and the system of patriarchal domination. The relations between Kurdistan families witnessed a great change and transformation, and this was achieved through great sacrifices and heroism, and we owe to the female martyrs who sacrificed their lives and played a pioneering role, and if the struggle for women’s freedom is progressing in our region day after day, this has been achieved by the will of these martyrs.”

"Being revenged"

Fawza Youssef mentioned that women in Rojava Kurdistan are taking revenge with the revolution against the mentality of patriarchal domination that has been going on for years, and she continued her speech by saying: “Women in Rojava Kurdistan struggle daily, and our academies take revenge on the mentality of sexual intolerance through training, and the Women’s Protection Units take revenge on the armies of men who They crushed the people and women, while our mothers waged an uprising against the outdated customs and traditions that restrict women. Women turned all economic, social, scientific, legal and political fields and spheres into an arena of resistance and struggle. If the enemies of the women’s revolution cannot eliminate this revolution today, this is because of their struggle. Women, women in North and East Syria have made all days of the year March 8. Previously, we had one day in the year, but today women are seeking to make all days of the year for women, resistance and struggle.”
