Families: Sacrifices of martyrs secured victory at Tishreen Dam

The resistance at Tishreen Dam has immortalized itself in the pages of history. On January 8, 2025, convoys of residents from the North and East Syria region headed toward the dam, where the resistance prevailed through the sacrifices of the martyrs, the steadfastness of the fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Women’s Protection Units, and the struggle of the revolutionary people against the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation.

In this context, the aunt of martyr Adham Ali, Amina Haj Wiss; the mother of martyr Hêza Mohammed, Zlikha Mohammed Ubaid; and the father of martyr Roniza Mohammed spoke to ANHA agency.

The three martyrs were killed in attacks by mercenaries of the Turkish occupation on civilians who were taking turns guarding Tishreen Dam to protect it from attacks.

“They Went to Protect Water and Energy”

Amina Haj Wiss said that Adham decided to go to Tishreen Dam to defend water and energy, adding that Hêza insisted on accompanying him. She explained:

“When Adham decided to go to Tishreen Dam, his wife told him: I will be with you side by side. Adham and Hêza left their nine‑month‑old daughter with Adham’s sister, and Hêza said to her mother: Take care of my daughter until I return, and know her value. Then they went together to Tishreen Dam to defend it.”

“The Martyrdom of Adham and Hêza Shook the World”

Amina Haj Wiss confirmed that the Turkish occupying state fears the power of civilians and therefore targets them directly, adding:

“No matter what the Turkish occupying state does, the people will rise to defend their land. Through the sacrifices of martyr Adham Ali, martyr Hêza Mohammed, martyr Roniza Mohammed, and all the martyrs of freedom, Tishreen Dam was victorious and the enemy was crushed.”

“My Daughter Was Strong, Brave, and Fearless”

For her part, Zlikha Mohammed Ubaid, the mother of martyr Hêza Mohammed, said that her daughter and her husband went to Tishreen Dam to defend it, adding:

“My daughter Hêza, my only flower, was always strong and brave. She confronted mistakes and spoke the truth without fear. She was an example of strength, known for her steadfastness and courage. She left behind her nine‑month‑old daughter and went with Adham to defend the dam, where they were martyred.”

She emphasized that the martyrdom of Hêza and Adham, despite leaving their small child behind, had a profound impact on the world, adding: “Their story was written in letters of gold in the record of history.”

“I Will Turn My Grief into Strength Against the Enemy”

Zlikha stressed that she would avenge her daughter, saying: “Hêza and Adham went to defend their land and their dam. We too will take revenge for them and will not let their blood be wasted. Their daughter Tala was left orphaned, without a mother or a father.”

“I Did Not Know My Daughter Was in That Car”

In turn, Mustafa Fathi Mohammed, the father of martyr Roniza Mohammed, said that the clashes at Tishreen Dam were intense and that civilians were taking turns protecting it. He added:

“We prepared food for the fighters. When the second convoy set off, we delivered the food and then returned. Hêza, Adham, and Roniza were in their car heading toward the dam. When we returned, I saw that the Turkish state had bombed the dam with its aircraft, but I did not know that my daughter was in that car.”

Mustafa Fathi Mohammed affirmed that the Turkish state tried in every way to intimidate the people, but the people were not afraid of the shelling or aircraft, saying:

“We were strong, and through our strength we succeeded in protecting our dam. We attained martyrdom with our heads held high, and we will remain so. We pledge to the martyrs that we will protect their legacy, fulfill their dreams, and defeat the enemy.”
