Explosions near Umayyad Square and Victoria Bridge in Damascus

Several explosions were heard a short while ago in the Syrian capital, Damascus, amidst a state of heightened security alert; however, Syrian authorities have not yet issued an official statement clarifying the circumstances of the incident or the extent of the resulting damage.

ANHA correspondent reported that the sounds were caused by the detonation of explosive devices at several locations along the road connecting Victoria Bridge and Umayyad Square. These locations included the vicinity of the Four Seasons Hotel, the Ministry of Tourism, and an area near Victoria Bridge.

Following the explosions, competent authorities began inspecting and investigating the targeted sites, although no official figures regarding casualties or material damage had been recorded by the time this report was filed.

This incident coincides with the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Syria, which began yesterday, Monday.

It also follows, by a few days, a bombing that targeted a café on Al-Nasr Street—near the Palace of Justice in central Damascus—resulting in deaths and injuries. At the time, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that preliminary investigations indicated the blast was caused by a crude explosive device.

Official bodies continue to monitor developments and are expected to announce any updates or investigation findings as soon as they become available.
