European calls for immediate halt to executions in Iran

The European Parliament called for an immediate halt to executions in Iran and the release of all political prisoners during a conference held today titled “Iran: A Practical Step to Stop Executions.. Where Does the European Union Stand?” The event was attended by officials and political figures, including Maryam Rajavi.

The conference highlighted the rising pace of executions, including the carrying out of death sentences against political prisoners and members of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization. The latest case involved the execution of a man accused of “spying for Israel.”

Maryam Rajavi stated that 16 political prisoners had been executed within a single month, saying this reflects the regime’s concern over growing popular protests.

For their part, European lawmakers said the executions reveal the regime’s “inability” to confront demands for change, calling for any relations with Tehran to be conditioned on ending such violations.

In the same context, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei reportedly issued directives to accelerate the implementation of death sentences against opponents, while reports also spoke of the arrest of hundreds of people on charges related to “assisting adversaries” during the recent military escalation.

Over recent years, Iran has witnessed waves of mass executions targeting hundreds of young men, women, and dissidents, particularly Kurds, especially following the crackdown that accompanied the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests. This has sparked repeated international human rights condemnations, amid accusations that executions are being used as a tool to deter popular dissent.
