Education Authority launches back-to-school campaign

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Education announced the launch of the “A Safe Return... My School Is Better” campaign across education directorates in the provinces as part of preparations for the 2026–2027 school year and efforts to improve school readiness and discipline.

The campaign comes as educational institutions and staff step up preparations and ready school facilities ahead of the official start of classes on September 6, according to the ministry’s schedule for the new academic year.

In Hasakah Governorate, preparations for the new school year have been underway for weeks, particularly in Qamishlo city, where the Education Complex launched a wide-ranging campaign to prepare and rehabilitate schools. The campaign included cleaning, maintenance and disinfection work, as well as preparing educational facilities, with the participation of teaching staff.

The “Qamishlo, a Clean City” campaign, launched by the Qamishlo District Directorate on August 13, has also expanded to a number of schools. The work focused on cleaning and organizing school facilities and yards with the participation of teachers, with the aim of improving the educational environment and preparing them to receive students.

On September 1, ANHA agency reported that the campaign was continuing and had targeted more than 12 schools, with the participation of representatives from the district directorate, municipality and service and civil institutions, alongside school staff who carried out cleaning and organizing work at a number of other schools. The efforts aim to provide a clean and orderly school environment as the start of the new academic year approaches.

The cleaning and rehabilitation efforts coincide with other measures to strengthen educational readiness in Hasakah. On August 30, Education Minister Mohammed Abdul Rahman Terko and Hasakah Education Director Adnan al-Berri discussed the state of the education process and preparations for the new academic year, including maintenance and renovation work, the provision of textbooks and educational and logistical supplies, and plans to open new schools to accommodate the growing number of students.

The efforts also coincide with widespread protests in various parts of Hasakah province against restrictions on education in Kurdish, in response to amendments issued by the Ministry of Education concerning the implementation mechanism of Article 13 of the decree on the Kurdish language.

The “A Safe Return... My School Is Better” campaign, launched by the Ministry of Education, is therefore taking place alongside local campaigns in Hasakah province focused on cleaning schools, maintaining and preparing their facilities, as well as calls for the adoption of Kurdish as a language of instruction, with the aim of welcoming students into a more organized and prepared educational environment as the 2026–2027 school year begins.
