Druze Leadership: Sweida’s demands clear, government plays confusing game

Spokespersons for the Spiritual Leadership of the Druze affirmed that the people of Sweida are facing attempts to marginalize their clear demands, stressing that there is no need for any new conferences or meetings. They added that what the transitional government is promoting about delegations or alleged representation in Jordan is nothing but a “game” aimed at legitimizing its measures against the region.

The Spiritual Leadership of the Druze in Sweida denied any knowledge of a conference or visit to Jordan attributed to the city, stressing that any statements or negotiations made in the name of Sweida’s people are “maneuvers and a disregard for international resolutions.”

Various media outlets affiliated with the transitional government had spoken of a meeting in Jordan between representatives of Sweida and the government to discuss the Sweida dossier.

In a statement to ANHA agency, the leadership explained that its demands are clear and do not require meetings or conferences with any party, noting that the international resolutions from the guarantor states since the ceasefire have not yet been implemented.

It added: “Who is this delegation? Who chose it? Who authorized it? And why did it go to Jordan?” considering any delegation not officially announced by the people of Sweida to be “a lie through which the transitional government seeks to confer legitimacy on its aggressive and retaliatory measures.”

The leadership affirmed that falsification, distortion, and conspiracy become clear when answering these questions, and that any claim of representing Sweida by unofficial delegations is entirely invalid.
