Demonstration in Gerke Legê demands release of prisoners

Residents of Gerke Legê and families of prisoners held in the city took to the streets to demand the release of their sons.

The demonstration began in Martyr Khabat Square in the city center, with a large turnout. Participants carried pictures of the prisoners and banners bearing slogans calling for their freedom and demanding information about their fate.

The demonstration proceeded through the city's main streets, with participants chanting slogans demanding the release of the prisoners and condemning their continued detention.

Upon reaching the central market, the demonstration transformed into a sit-in protest. A statement was delivered by Khansa Hadi, an administrator with the Movement for a Democratic Society TEV-DEM, who said: "Since the recent events and the agreements under which our forces redeployed in many areas, these agreements have not been honored by the forces of the Interim Government and its affiliated factions. During this time, fighters and civilians have been captured."

The statement continued: "These young men and women have defended the homeland for over a decade against the most brutal forces of terrorism and darkness. They protected more than 30% of Syrian territory from ruin, destruction, killing, and devastation, and they preserved brotherhood and coexistence among all communities without discrimination."

The statement concluded: "We say, and we reiterate, that we are all children of one nation. We have lived together throughout history, defended together, struggled together on all fronts, and been martyred together. No one can deny this. Therefore, there is no justification for our sons and daughters to remain prisoners in jails without cause."

The statement called on the interim government to immediately and urgently release all detainees without exception, and concluded by saying: "Let everyone know that prisoners are a red line and at the forefront of our priorities."
