Democratic AANES delegation meets with European parliamentarians

On November 26, 2024, the delegation of the Democratic Autonomous Administration for the NE Syria Region, which included the representative of the Autonomous Administration in Europe, Abd al-Karim Omar, and the representative of the Autonomous Administration in France, Karim Qamar, held several meetings with members of the European Parliament, from various political blocs, namely: Andreas Scheider, Danilo della Valle, Leoluca Orlando, and Cecilia Strada, at the European Parliament building in the French city of Strasbourg.

During the meeting, the 2 sides exchanged views on the situation and developments throughout Syria, and NE Syria in particular, and discussed the most prominent challenges facing the administration at the political, humanitarian, economic and security levels, and the threat of ISIS, which has begun to activate and reorganize itself,

and they talked at length about the file of thousands of ISIS mercenaries who are in detention centers and tens of thousands of their families in Al-Hol and Roj camps. 

The delegation of the Democratic AANES touched on the repercussions of the ongoing war between Israel, Hamas and Hezbollah on the situation in NE Syria, in addition to the continuous Turkish attacks on NE Syria, using warplanes and drones, targeting infrastructure, electricity, gas and water stations, and civil and service institutions and facilities.

These attacks have exacerbated the humanitarian situation, with more than a million people now living without electricity, hundreds of thousands without drinking water, and it is extremely difficult to secure domestic gas.

The delegation added that these attacks and their repercussions are driving new waves of migration abroad, especially to Europe.

The delegation pointed out that the Turkish attacks are destabilizing the region, leading to a security vacuum that ISIS cells are exploiting to reorganize themselves.

The delegation of the Autonomous Administration stressed the need for international powers to assume their responsibilities in supporting the Autonomous Administration at all levels; political, humanitarian, economic, military and others, to confront the threat of ISIS and reduce the waves of mass migration abroad.
