Deir ez-Zor Military Council responds to armed attack

Today, the media office of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council issued a statement to the public, revealing that one of its units had been targeted in an armed attack in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside. The forces responded with a precise operation that resulted in the death of one attacker and injuries to three others.

The statement read as follows:

“On the evening of Wednesday, four fighters from the Deir ez-Zor Military Council, who were on a non-combat mission to receive medical treatment at a pharmacy in the town of Al-Hawayej, east of Deir ez-Zor, were subjected to a terrorist attack carried out by a group believed to be affiliated with the ISIS terrorist organization.

Our forces carried out a precise operation in response to the attack, resulting in the death of one member of the attacking group and injuries to three others, while the operation continues according to the planned course. We affirm that any attack targeting our members or our people in the region will be met with a strict and decisive response.

We also announce the immediate launch of a thorough investigation to determine the details of the incident and identify those responsible, while retaining all information related to the incident until the investigation is completed and the necessary legal procedures are concluded.

The Deir ez-Zor Military Council categorically rejects any attempts to undermine the security and stability of the region and reiterates its commitment to pursuing terrorism wherever it exists, escalating operations against anyone who threatens the lives of our people and their national gains.”
