 PUK member Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed emphasized that declaring Halabja a new governorate is not merely an administrative measure, but rather represents an official recognition of the sacrifices of its people and the embodiment of long-awaited justice.

On Monday, the Iraqi Council of Representatives voted, by a majority, to create Halabja Governorate, to be the 19th governorate 5in Iraq.

The member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, congratulated that the announcement of Halabja is conservative through a statement. She pointed out that this step represents a historic moment for the people of Halabja, as the Iraqi parliament took a conscious decision and was to recognize it as the nineteenth governorate in the country.

She added that this decision is not limited to being an administrative organization, but rather reflects an official appreciation of the sacrifices of the people of Halabja and their efforts to obtain their legitimate rights.

Shanaz Ibrahim explained that the effects of the chemical attack that took place in 1988 are still present, but this day is authorized to start a new era based on recognition and adherence to the rights of the city's residents, to be a promise of a brighter future. With the advent of the spring, the people receive this long -awaited decision, considering it a symbol of renewal and hope.

Shanaz Ibrahim expressed her appreciation to the legislators who overcame political differences and chose to stand on the ranks of justice, praising their efforts in honoring the memory of the victims and celebrating the steadfastness of the survivors. She emphasized that the official recognition of Halabja should be followed by practical steps, including investments in infrastructure, supporting its residents, and implementing the postponed promises that the people have long been waiting for.

She stressed the need for the federal government to guarantee the provision of resources and compensation due to Halabja, so that its people can achieve the growth and prosperity that they were deprived of for decades.
