Damascus Authority announces beginning of "restructuring" of embassies , diplomatic missions

The Foreign Minister of the Damascus Authority, Asaad al-Shaibani, announced today the beginning of the "restructuring" process of Syrian embassies and diplomatic missions, under the direction of the head of the Damascus Authority, Ahmed al-Sharaa.

He said that the restructuring process will be carried out "in a way that ensures honorable representation of the Syrian Arab Republic and the provision of distinguished services to Syrian citizens abroad."

Yesterday, SANA quoted a source in the ministry as saying that a comprehensive review of the status of Syrian missions abroad is currently underway, and "serious decisions regarding their reorganization and restructuring will be announced soon... to ensure efficient performance and clear political representation."

This comes a day after the United States sent a memorandum to the Syrian mission in New York, changing its legal status to that of a non-recognized government and revoking visas for its members. This reflects Washington's lack of recognition of the current Syrian transitional government.
