DAA welcomes formation joint cell to repatriate ISIS families

The Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria welcomed the announcement of a joint cell to facilitate the repatriation of families of ISIS terrorists from the al-Hol and Roj camps. It stressed the need to compensate victims by establishing courts in the region to try the mercenaries responsible for crimes against Syrians.

Fener al-Kait, Co-Chair of the DAA's Department of Foreign Relations, said in a statement published on the administration’s official page:

“The DAA welcomes the formation of a joint cell to repatriate the families of ISIS mercenaries from Roj and al-Hol camps.”

He noted that the DAA, as a key partner in the joint cell alongside the U.S.-led coalition, has consistently urged countries to take back their nationals from the camps, in order to prevent the rise of further extremism and its destabilizing impact on Syria and the broader region.

Al-Kait pointed out that the administration has been left to face the immense challenges of managing and securing the camps, amid slow responses to its repeated calls.

He underscored the importance of ensuring that repatriation efforts are accompanied by fair and transparent trials for ISIS terrorists held in detention centers across North and East Syria.

The DAA, he added, is fully prepared to launch such trials on its territory. For the administration, this step is “crucial to deliver justice for the thousands of victims who lost their lives to terrorism and violence in Syria.”
