DAA congratulates the coming of New Year

the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria published a statement on its official website today, calling on all Syrians to work to turn the new year into a year of unifying national energies in the interest of Syria and the future of its people, ending the reality and manifestations of the occupation, and consolidating Syrian unity.

The text of the statement read:

“Another year of suffering and dispersion has passed for the Syrians, with their country turning into an arena of regional and international conflict since the beginning of the crisis, which worsened and seemed more severe during the past year, with the emergence of various developments both inside Syria and in the region, which contributed to increasing the suffering of the Syrians.” The complexity of the crisis, which has no signs of a solution yet on the horizon, is that this suffering has been reinforced by commercial ambitions and policies by regional parties, most notably the Turkish state, which occupied parts of Syrian territory, practiced a racist policy towards Syrian refugees by forcibly deporting them, and imposed the reality of division and segregation without any consideration. Because of the pain and suffering of this people, it even went towards striking the stability of its semi-stable regions - the North and East Syria - when its livelihoods were targeted and its sources of life, including wealth and services, were destroyed.

This Turkish escalation and systematic destruction was one of the major challenges faced by our people, its Autonomous Administration, and its military forces, in light of the continued great efforts to combat terrorism and overcome its effects.

The Turkish state's continued destruction of infrastructure and the Turkish occupation authority and its mercenary terrorist groups committing more massacres and violations in the occupied areas (Afrin, Serêkaniyê - Ras al-Ain, and Gire Spi- Tal Abyad) during the past year, contributed to spreading devastation and chaos in the region and empowering the hands of terrorism and sabotaging efforts to build and develop the democratic process.

Regional and international changes have also cast a shadow on the reality of the situation in Syria. Starting from Ukraine, passing through Turkey, and even Gaza, which pushed the Syrian scene towards further deterioration, with the Arab position remaining weak and absent from the Syrian scene, and instead of the Arab countries contributing to resolving the Syrian crisis, they are suffering today from the repercussions of this crisis, more than any other country. Time has passed, and its national security has become threatened.

With the earthquake disaster on February 6 of last year, which struck Syria and Turkey, humanitarian diplomacy was activated, and channels of communication were opened with the Syrian regime for the purpose of providing humanitarian support to the affected areas, which led to the crystallization of an Arab initiative for normalization with Damascus, but it did not yield results.

Also, the international efforts exerted according to the decision 2,254 did not go beyond the files of humanitarian support and De-escalation, and they in themselves suffer from a major problem, and this indicates that the Syrian political reality is experiencing a state of blockage, which leads to the prolongation of the life of the crisis and the absence of opportunities for solution and settlement in the near term.

The components of North and East Syria have made tremendous efforts to preserve and develop their gains, and to maintain stability and security for the region, and thwarted the efforts and plans aimed at creating strife and internal conflicts, and this is due to the efforts of all the people of the region, and on the basis of community cooperation and solidarity, and this year was a year full of various security challenges and difficulties. Economically and politically, it was also a year full of achievements achieved by the Democratic Autonomous Administration DAA, which still has many tasks ahead of it, which it did not complete last year. It is committed to its approach and is determined to follow up and accomplish what befits a decent life for our people.

While we, in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, extend our congratulations to all the Syrian people on the coming of Christmas and the New Year, we express pain for our civilian martyrs who fell as a result of the treacherous Turkish aggression, those innocent people who were hoping and waiting for the arrival of a new year that brings hope, and in the same context, we affirm that the cohesion and solidarity of our people will remain the only way to guarantee their rights and identity in the face of all the forces that want them to be exterminated and destroyed, calling on the international community to take action regarding what is happening in Syria, and to put pressure on the Turkish state to stop its aggression and end its occupation of Syrian land, calling all parties to carry out their moral and humanitarian responsibilities and duties to end the suffering of Syrians, and to harness all efforts to establish peace and achieve coexistence and love among peoples.

We also call for activating the path of a political solution and launching dialogue on the basis of national partnership and building a new, decentralized, democratic Syria. We appeal to all Syrians to work to transform the new year into a year of unifying national energies in the interest of Syria and the future of its people, ending the reality and manifestations of the occupation, and consolidating Syrian unity.
