Crisis, we call for urgent intervention

The Autonomous Administration in the Euphrates Canton issued a statement today, delivered by the Co-Chair of the Autonomous Administration in the Euphrates Canton, Farhan Haj Issa, and the Deputy Co-Chair, Mizgin Khalil, in front of the Autonomous Administration headquarters in the city of Kobani, in the presence of members of the canton’s Autonomous Administration institutions.

In its statement, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Euphrates Canton affirmed that “the mercenary factions affiliated with the interim government in Damascus have continued to launch attacks and impose a suffocating siege on the city of Kobani and its countryside for more than a week, leading to a shortage of basic supplies, including food, medicine, water, electricity, and fuel, in addition to the displacement of residents from several villages in the countryside. This has resulted in a major humanitarian crisis that requires urgent intervention.”

The statement noted that these attacks coincide with the eleventh anniversary of the liberation of Kobani from ISIS mercenaries.

The Autonomous Administration stressed that “the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) waged a heroic resistance at that time, inflicting a crushing defeat on the organization. Kobani became the starting point for liberation campaigns that contributed to freeing the region and the world from one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations.”

It added that Kobani, which fought terrorism on behalf of the entire world, is today facing attacks and a siege before the eyes of the international community, and that what is happening does not differ greatly from the war waged by ISIS. This places a moral responsibility on the international community to intervene urgently.

In the face of what it described as a brutal war, the Autonomous Administration affirmed that the people of the region continue to resist with determination and heroism, in the same spirit of the Kobani resistance, and that these attacks will not deter them from continuing the struggle until the goals of the revolution freedom and a dignified life are achieved.

It also emphasized that, within the framework of the general mobilization, it will continue to organize ranks and escalate resistance using all available capabilities and means.

The Autonomous Administration concluded its statement by calling on Kurds in the four parts of Kurdistan and in the countries of the diaspora to stand alongside and join the resistance in Rojava.

It also issued an urgent appeal to international powers and humanitarian organizations to intervene, lift the siege, pressure the interim government to halt the attacks, and work toward finding a political solution to the current situation.
