A couple lost their lives and three children from the same family were injured as a result of a drone strike that targeted a citizen's home in the city of Erbil in southern Kurdistan

A drone strike targeted a house in the village of Zargazoy, near Erbil in southern Kurdistan, martyring a man and a woman and injuring three children late last night.

The Kurdistan Region's Counter-Terrorism Directorate announced that the attack occurred at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, stating that the explosive-laden drone was launched from Iran and crashed into a civilian's home within Erbil Governorate.

The directorate added that the attack killed the couple, Musa Anwar Rasul and Muzhda Asad Hassan.

For his part, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani strongly condemned "the terrorist attack that targeted a civilian's home in the village of Zargazoy, Erbil Governorate, late last night with a drone, which unfortunately resulted in the martyrdom of a couple."

The President of the Kurdistan Region offered his deepest condolences to the families of the two martyrs, stating, "I share their grief from the bottom of my heart. I pray to God Almighty to grant them His mercy and admit them to Paradise, and to grant their families patience and solace."

He emphasized that "these attacks are unacceptable in any way and are completely rejected."

He called on the Iraqi Federal Government "to fulfill its duties and responsibilities to prevent these crimes and terrorist attacks," stressing the need to "put an end to the recurrence of these attacks on innocent civilians in the Kurdistan Region."
