Concerning indicator of rising violence against women in Iran

Zahra Behrouz Azar, Iran's Deputy for Women's Affairs, has announced a worrying 30% increase in domestic violence rates against women in E. Kurdistan and across Iran.

According to a report by Roj News, Zahra Azar stated that the rates of violence against women in E. Kurdistan and Iran have reached 30%, amid a lack of transparency in the publication of official statistics related to these violations.

In a press statement, Azar emphasized that official figures on violence against women are deliberately concealed, yet they clearly indicate a dangerously increasing trend. She called for thorough and immediate investigations into these cases.

She also warned that if this reality continues without serious intervention, it could lead to a social and human rights catastrophe. Azar pointed out that violence against women is not just a series of isolated incidents, but rather the result of a dominant patriarchal culture and a system that perpetuates the marginalization and oppression of women, aiming to silence their voices and hinder their struggle for justice and equality.
