Clash erupts between Transitional Govt., Turkmen faction in Latakia countryside

A clash broke out in al-Badrousiya in the Latakia countryside, between the security forces of the Transitional Government and a Turkmen faction that had barricaded itself inside a hotel that they had seized by force, during an attempt to implement the decision to evacuate it.

On Monday, an armed clash erupted in the village of al-Badrousiya in the Latakia countryside between the Syrian Transitional Government's Internal Security of and a Turkmen armed group that had barricaded itself inside a hotel in the village.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Turkmen faction had seized the hotel weeks earlier after forcibly evicting its owner. This prompted the owner to file a complaint with the General Security that verified his ownership and issued an eviction order.

During an attempt by security forces to enforce the eviction order on Monday morning, tensions escalated into a gunfight, before additional Turkmen armed groups intervened to support the faction.

The area witnessed a large-scale deployment of General Security checkpoints, preventing civilians from entering the village, amid fears that the tension could escalate further in the coming hours.
